Elsa has half a can of wet food mixed with her kibble (plus a 1/4 cup of water, she likes really wet food!), it is what she likes, which means the crushed pill is really hidden. Then, we mixed the crumbles with her food. So we put them in a sealed, air squished out Ziploc bag (Ziploc bag = they stay put, no mess or bits flying) making them easy to crush with the butt end of a wooden rolling pin (any implement with a wider solid end, or a mortar and pestle would work too). When we first tried she would show initial interest, then just spit them out. Elsa would not eat these little brown bricks, as they are hard not soft which is what we expected since the product is called a "chew". Stickers come in the box to put on your calender so you get reminded when they are due. These Sentinel Spectrum Chews are very easy to give and I like the peace of mind knowing our GSD princess Elsa is not going to get heartworm and such. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. Studies have been performed with milbemycin oxime and lufenuron alone. The safety of this medication has not been evaluated in dogs used for breeding or in lactating females. Do not use in dogs or puppies less than two pounds of body weight. Do not use in puppies less than six weeks of age. These reactions are presumably caused by release of protein from dead or dying microfilariae. Mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions, such as labored breathing, vomiting, hypersalivation, and lethargy, have been noted in some dogs treated with milbemycin oxime carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae. This medication is not effective against adult D. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms. Prior to administration of Sentinel Spectrum, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. Treatment with fewer than 6 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention.
